Physician's account book, 1784-1798, 1803.

The ledger records hundreds of visits by patients over two decades from Lexington, Mass. and the surrounding area. Each entry is divided into three components: date, treatment performed, and fee. The ledger also contains loose papers including an estate inventory of Dr. Robert Fiske (1753), a will dated 1804 and an estate inventory dated 1808 for Dr. Joseph Fiske, Sr. Additional background materials available in collection administrative file.

Fiske, Joseph, 1752-1837

Joseph Fiske, Jr. was born in Lexington, Mass., Dec. 25, 1752 and died there on Sept. 25, 1837. His father and grandfather were also physicians. In 1777, Fiske was commissioned a surgeon in Col. Joseph Voses's regiment and became a full surgeon in 1779. He attended the surrenders of Gen. Burgoyne and Cornwallis. He served in the army until 1784 and then commence his private practice.
